Left Handed Girl is the story of 21-year-old I-Ann, her 5-year-old sister I-Jing, and their mother Shu-Feng, who have just moved back to Taipei City after living in the countryside for years. Mother Shu-Feng is under tremendous debt and struggles to make ends meet with a food stand at the local night market. I-Ann, who has a strained relationship with her mother, reluctantly looks after little I-Jing and takes a job as a betel nut girl, the western equivalent of a Hooters girl selling betel nuts. Little I-Jing, who is oblivious to the strains and tensions of her family, happily embraces the energy of life in the city and the night market.
